FILIPINO STUDENTS FROM KSA DOMINATE LITERARY CONTEST IN CELEBRATION OF THE BUWAN NG WIKA 2009

The year 2009 ended with a bang for the Filipino students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for winning three (3) out of six (6) awards in the Second Literary Contest in celebration of the Buwan ng Wika 2009 with the theme “Wikang Pilipino: Mula Baler Hanggang Buong Pilipinas”, sponsored by the Inter-Agency Committee on Philippine Schools Overseas (IACPSO).

Robert Ezekiel E. Abrigonda of Future Generation Philippine International School in Riyadh and Redamelle Joyce A. Camero of Al Taj International School in Riyadh bagged the 1st and 2nd place honors, respectively, for the Nursery Rhyme Writing Contest, while Bryan Leonard O. David of Gems International School in Jeddah has secured 3rd place for the One-Act Play Writing Competition. A special citation was also awarded to Kristine Bernadette P. Solis of Gems International School in Jeddah.

Other winners were Vanessa Klaire G. Tolentino of Philippine School in Doha (3rd Place-Nursery Rhyme Writing), Nicole U. Raquinio of Philippine International English School in Kuwait (1st place – One-Act Play Writing), and Nicole Marie L. Ronquillo of PISCO Private School in Abu Dhabi (2nd place – One-Act Play Writing).

The result of the aforementioned contest was conveyed by Mr. Jose Maria J. Palabrica, Executive Director of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, in a memorandum for the IACPSO on 22 December 2009.

All the lucky winners will each receive cash prizes and plaques of recognition. The formal awarding ceremony will be held during the Annual Conference of Philippine Schools Overseas, which is normally being conducted outside the Kingdom during the summer break. END
