PRESS RELEASE NO. APV- 12 - 2009
28 February 2009

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY COMMEMORATES EDSA-1 PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION

The Embassy of the Philippines in Riyadh joined Filipinos all over the world in commemorating the 23rd Anniversary of the EDSA-1 People Power Revolution under the theme “Pag-asa ng Bayan: Sakripisyo at Pagbabago para sa Kaunluran” in a simple programme held as early as 7:00 am on 25 February 2009, at the Liwasang Bonifacio Multi-purpose court of the Embassy.

The celebration was opened by Vice Consul Roussel R. Reyes who served as Master of Ceremony. He conveyed to those present the significance of EDSA and thereafter called the attention of everyone to give respect to the Philippine flag, which was proudly raised by Attaches Uldarico C. Malicse, Jr. and Iluminado Ponciano. The singing of the national anthem was conducted by Attaché Maribeth T. Ferrrer while Mr. Dunhill Alcantara led the recitation of the oath of allegiance to the Philippine flag. It was then followed by Muslim and Christian prayers offered for the celebration by Mr. Abdullah Y. Umpa and Vice Consul Paulo V. Saret, respectively.

The program culminated with a short message from Ambassador Antonio P. Villamor. He mentioned the appropriateness of this year’s EDSA theme in the daily lives of all the Embassy personnel. He emphasized the sacrifices that every government employee has to endure to contribute to the betterment of the Philippine society. He further encouraged everyone to continue working responsibly to protect the interest of Filipino expatriates in the Kingdom.

The occasion was also graced by Consul Leo “Tito” Ausan, Jr. and his wife from the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, who happened to be visiting Riyadh.

After the ceremony, the Ambassador invited everyone in his residence to partake of a sumptuous Filipino breakfast prepared by his wife, Madame Rose Marie B. Villamor. pls see pic
