DFA Upholds Validity of Green Passports
PRESS RELEASE No. APV- 08 - 2009
10 February 2009
The Department of Foreign Affairs has come out with an official statement affirming the validity of all green passports until the stated date of expiry.
The advisory sent to all Foreign Service Posts and Regional Consular Offices under the DFA reiterates the Department’s previous statement, which has been the basis of the Embassy’s position in reply to questions on the validity of green passports or the non-Machine Readable Passports.
The Department also sought to “allay confusion roused by recent erroneous information.”
Emails purportedly bearing the look of an official advisory have circulated in recent weeks, announcing that green passports will no longer be honored, and therefore must be renewed by January 2010.
Confronted with such a recurring question, the Embassy has always maintained its earlier advisory on the validity of green passports which is now reaffirmed by the Department.
The Embassy has likewise been pointing out the importance for Filipino nationals in the Kingdom to make sure that their passports are always valid for a period of at least six (6) months to avoid delay in traveling whenever an emergency arises. END
