Extension of Services in Sakaka, Al-Jouf

PRESS RELEASE No. APV- 81-2008
02 November 2008

Extension of Services in Sakaka, Al-Jouf

Huge numbers – around one thousand passport applicants – were once again served during the “Embassy on Wheels” in Al-Khobar last weekend, as the Embassy now sets its sights farther and higher by looking to extend its services to Sakaka, Al-Jouf.

There is, however, a decidedly fewer number of Filipino migrant workers in this northern region capital, which lies 1,207 kilometers from Riyadh.

But following the model of cooperation established in Al-Khobar between the Embassy and the Filipino community organizations, the outreach service in Sakaka is being made possible through the active support of Samahan ng Manggagawang Pilipino sa Al-Jouf at Kahilagaan (SAMPILAK).

A small team of four from the Consular Section of the Embassy will be deployed and join the Labor Section personnel who will be going ahead to implement on-site welfare and information programs for Filipino workers in Sakaka and surrounding areas including Ar-Ar.

Due to the long distance, the Embassy team will fly instead of traveling “on wheels” in order to conduct passport services at the Mussaba Resort in Sakaka from 10:00 AM up to 6:00 PM on Thursday, November 13.

This latest move by the Embassy to extend its frontline services to Filipino communities outside Riyadh may prove to be another first since the establishment of the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia and in the 39-year old official diplomatic relations between the two countries. END
